My ONE FAVOURITE K.A. Tucker MOMENT

My favourite K.A. Tucker moment actually happened before I read any of her books. It happened before I met her at a book signing. It happened before the GPS got us lost and the snow storm almost killed us on what was the LONGEST ROAD TRIP EVER!

My favourite K.A. Tucker moment was at a book signing that she was NOT attending. It was the first time I went to one of these. It was the first time I realized I was not alone in my love of books and disregard for sleep. It was the first time I met people who understood that 2 large coffees were ALWAYS the answer to a sleepless night because just-one-more-chapter turned into crap-it's-4am-and-I-read-the-entire-book!

If you've ever been in a congregation of book-lovers, you know that the conversation always turns into what everyone has read. There is shock when a title is mentioned and you stare at them with a blank face. There is giddiness and lots of eeeeking when you talk to someone who has read the same books as you. It's like you've met your other half. Because your true other half got really tired of hearing you talk about that character in that book so they put you on a plane so you can be among your people and he can watch Sunday Night Football in peace.

So my favourite moment...

While we were waiting for the authors to come out, about 5 people (all at the same time), asked me if I've read K.A. Tucker. I hadn't. This was early 2013 and I'd only binge reading NA for the past month (26 days to be exact, and I read 30 books in that time frame). There was a collective WHAAAAAAAT?! from the audience. I thought I might have to skip the signing if I wanted to make it out alive. But in a moment of brilliance, I took out my phone and opened by notepad app to write down the title that the group was yelling at me.

Ten Tiny Breaths.
The cover is blue and has a girl with red hair on it.
You have to read it.
OMG - you have to read it.
I can't believe you haven't ready it!

On January 20, 2013 at 2:03pm Dallas Texas time (I took the screen shot this morning, hence the 7:16am), I was introduced to K.A. Tucker. That people who I instantly trusted recommended her first, and she was the first one I wrote down - that it my favourite K.A. Tucker moment. The instant love for a book that I had never heard of, a cover I'd never seen, and an author I didn't know.

AND THERE'S A GIVEAWAY!

Try (Temptation Series Book 1) & Take (Temptation Series Book 2) by Ella Frank

Uhhh...How to start this? Seriously, I'm not entirely sure.

I stumbled upon the title of the first book and noticed the names Tate and Logan. Because of my aversion to reading reviews and blurbs before I read the book, I left it at that. I did think to myself that Tate seemed to be a very popular name these days for female characters.

Have you read this book? Are you laughing yet? Because about 10% into Try, I was. Not because I thought the story was funny, or because it seemed so far-fetched, but because for once in my reading-life, I was completely taken out of my comfort zone and I had no one to blame but myself. I couldn't blame the author, because it turns out the blurb would have explained a few things. I can't blame the reviews, because after I finished both books in a day and a half(!), I finally read them.

Logan is a whore. Tate is a bartender. Logan is an a--hole. Tate is straight. Logan is still an a--hole. But Logan usually gets what he wants.

Here is the link to Try on Amazon --> http://amzn.to/1pU1vtm so you can be the opposite of me and read the blurb.

You'll also find a considerable amount of reviews that will do this book more justice that I can muster at the moment. I will say this though; if this is not what you normally go for, I honestly think you'd be surprised at how much you'll like the characters. There's a whole lot of sex, swearing, angst, and all around hotness. I'm not saying this is for this will be for everyone. Heck, I didn't think I would be so obsessed with it after 36 hours, but something worth knowing about me - I love my sleep. And the book has to be really good for me to give it up.

If you're still reading this, there must be something in this post that piqued your interest. Good. Try is book 1 in the series, and Take is book 2. I thank the book-gods for One-Click and very fast internet download speeds. Without either of them, I might have actually had to do house work yesterday when I finished the first book. And I really didn't want to do that. I just wanted more Logan and Tate. So if you make it through Try, you NEED Taken. You need to read more about their relationship, you need to have the feels (yeah I know, this was a word on a list of words that no one over 18 should use - so sue me), and most importantly, you just need it.

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Has it been a while since you read about a guy who was emotionally closed off in a book?

Yeah? Then read Ugly Love.

Has it been a while since you got eeeeking-ly happy about the on-page chemistry between said guy and a female heroine who should want more but is happy to get pieces of a broken soul rather than nothing at all?

Yeah? Then read Ugly Love.

Has it been a while since you’ve been so torn about which relationship you want to cheer for, that a part of you hopes that the story never ends, that you never find out what happened, or that it might end on a random word just so you wouldn’t know?

Yeah? Then read Ugly Love.

Has it been a while since you’ve read about heartbreaking devastation that you find yourself inconsolable over, and in retaliation using the f-word in all the languages you know to condemn Colleen Hoover to the deepest and darkest pits of hell for doing this to you yet again? YET AGAIN! And then letting out one of those evil, diabolical laughs that you’re sure she does whenever she comes up with these stories?

Yeah? Then read Ugly Love.

Has it been a while since you woke up the next morning and realized that you love a book more after 8 hours of sleep than you did at the moment you finished reading it? That if this book was a person and that you didn’t have a significant other that you adored to the ends of the world, you’d probably toss him/her in a taxi and tell the drive to take you the nearest wedding chapel (or city hall)?

Yeah? Then read Ugly Love.

Has it been a while since you were thankful that your child wanted pizza for dinner that cooks for 17 minutes over the healthier choice of baked chicken breast and potatoes, with a side of grilled vegetable that cooks in 45 minutes because that means you have an extra 28 minutes to read a book?

Yeah? Then read Ugly Love.

Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn’t expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

One year ago I received an ARC; gave my honest opinion. One year later, I stand by every single word in this review.

If I wanted to become an author, this is the calibre of writing I would aspire to. As a reader, Left Drowning is the reason I read; the reason I neglect my housework, deprive myself of sleep, and buy a stupid number of the same paperbacks.

This review might contain some spoilers, but I tried to be as vague with the characters as possible. That was hard because this book had me laughing and crying. It's really hard to say "BELIEVE ALL THE HYPE" and not give the whole thing away. Through Ms. Park's ability to write an amazing and captivating story, it made me consider God, love, family, and hope.

The beginning of this beautiful story permeated desolation. I have no idea how this author has such an innate ability to write depression nor do I care. Knowing these trade-secrets would almost be blasphemous.

The reader is first introduced to the main character in what could later be described as the turning point of her emotional bottom. Though the character can very well use a therapist, a prescription of antidepressants, and normal social interactions, her self-awareness is uncanny and gives the reader hope that there is an end to her self-imposed social exile.

After meeting a coffee-thief, the clouds seem to dissipate a bit for the main character. Unfortunately, in this moment of just maybe also came my moment of despair. Even through all the coffee-thief’s bravado, I can sense that not all is as it seems and my heart breaks immediately. In the first instance of meeting this thief, I fell for him hook, line, and sinker. I have no idea who this person is, and my soul is already shattered for him.

In that moment the coffee-thief seems to provide possibility of ‘more’, but it still isn’t enough. I can sense that the frail threads that are the main character are still loosening themselves. And it takes a stone-thrower to pull the few loose ends.

The life-altering tragedy of what happened to the main character and the way she unravels is so poetic that I was actually expecting an iambic pentameter somewhere in the midst of all the emotional brutality. After the gut-wrenching beat-down, it’s evident that the threads were suffocating her to the brink of nonexistence. With the help of the stone-thrower, she’s able to breathe.

About half way through, my hands begin to shake. I notice that I’m sweating, and the part of my brain that’s trying to protect my heart is telling me to put the book down. PUT THE FUCKING BOOK DOWN! It’s like having the ability to see three seconds into the future; just enough time to know, but not enough time to do anything about it. The stone-thrower is tearing my mending heart into a gazillion pieces. By the next chapter, I’m fighting nausea, wiping my tears and my snotty nose with my sleeve. There is nothing I can do to stop the destruction that’s about to occur, and I know this will only get worse.

But eventually it does get better. The main character has the unconditional love of the soccer player she reconnected with, the waitress she adores, the devoted study partner, and the coffee-thief who is the platonic love of her life.

But my original distress comes back with a vengeance and incapacitates me like a bullet through my guts.

The world of the coffee-thief, the waitress, the study partner, and the stone-thrower has been so damaged that the main character’s tragedy for a moment pales in comparison. It makes one want to inflict pain on those who wronged them regardless of their fictional status. It makes one want to take a black Sharpie and remove any mention of them. The one who wronged them is also the one that keeps everyone together and that is their only saving grace.

This is a story about bearing crosses that are too big for any one to carry alone. It’s a story about believing in the ability to just believe. It’s about love, and knowing that no matter how it’s done, it’s all-consuming and unconditional. It’s about hope for one day....

Simply, it’s a magnificent piece of fiction.

Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire - Review & Giveaway

BEAUTIFUL OBLIVION
Atria Books | 336 pages | Paperback ISBN 9781476759586 | eBook ISBN: ISBN 9781476759593 | On Sale: July 1, 2014

The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

SYNOPSIS

Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

REVIEW

The fact that you're reading this under the review section means that I was lucky enough to get an ARC from the publisher for an honest review. So here it goes.

I've been excited for this book for a VERY.LONG.TIME. I mean probably since when I first heard whisperings that Jamie McGuire was writing books on the brothers - so about a year and a half. That is a crazy amount of time to wait for a book. But it was worth it.

As a die-hard Travis Maddox fan, it took me a couple of chapters to wrap my head around the fact that this was not about him. Yeah, you get glimpses of him (and Abby), but the story is all Trenton and Cami. And boy, is it glorious. He's arrogant, yet vulnerable. He can be tough-as-sh!t and manipulative, but in every instance, you see that there's nothing but love, loyalty, or determination behind everything he does.

And then there's Cami. That's all I can say because I know something you don't know. But if even if I try to be vague about it, I'm petrified that I'll somehow say too much and my head will end up in a guillotine. Seriously - you'll read the book and have you mind blown.

I was on a complete high from Trent's complete and utter devotion to Cami. As a reader, this is what I crave. I desperately need that all-consuming-want with a dose of angst like I need my Kindle. I think anyone who reads (and loves) this story will realize that it isn't about who is better - Trent or Travis. It's about the fact that Ms. McGuire has given us yet another Maddox brother to love (and for our significant others to groan about because of the constant swooning).

Cinderella Screwed Me Over

Title: Cinderella Screwed Me Over
Author: Cindi Madsen
Age: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Entangled
ASIN: B00BMKFPL6
ISBN: 1622660315

BLURB

Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She's sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings and she's happy about it. Really. Or at least she was…until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she's culled from her years spent with so-called “princes,” and starting something with Jake would break all of them.

Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn’t fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after?

Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp.

EXCERPT

Jake looked down at me and I noticed again how blue his eyes were. My gaze moved to his lips.

Mayday, mayday, mayday.
I dropped my hand from his arm and swallowed.

“And what did I do to deserve the brush-off?” he asked.

The elevator doors opened and I let out a sigh of relief. Saved by the bing! I moved for the doors, but Jake beat me to them. Only he put a hand out to hold them open and turned to face me, eyebrows raised. So much for escaping the question.

I could feel every beat of my heart, and the walls of the elevator seemed to be closing in on me. “It’s nothing against you personally. You seem nice—you’re very charming, actually, which I’m sure you know. But you live in my building, and I’ve got certain rules about that kind of thing. Before I stuck to the rules, my life was much messier.” I ducked under his arm—damn he smelled good—and started for my car.

Jake stayed by my side, our footsteps echoing through the garage. “I live in the wrong place and just like that, I’ve got no chance with you?”

I kept my eyes on my car, afraid that if I looked at him, I might give in. And yes, last night I’d considered trying one little date. But he noticed too much, and he pushed against boundaries I wasn’t ready to let go of. It was time I pushed back. “Why have you chosen to pursue me? I’m not playing hard to get. It’s not some game you’ve got to win.” I pointed my remote at my silver Dodge Durango and pushed the unlock button.

Jake stepped ahead of me and opened the car door for me. “I’m sure plenty of guys hit on you. Obviously you’re beautiful. But there’s something different about you that makes me not want to give up.”

“You don’t even know me,” I said.

“And whose fault is that?”

“Cinderella’s.”

Two creases formed between Jake’s eyebrows. “Cinderella’s?”

“Yeah, Cinderella screwed me over.” Without any more explanation, I got into my car, pulled the door closed, and fired up the engine.
